The Arthur Plains from Moraine K. The ugly scar of Scotts peak Dam and the flooded Lake Pedder dominates the scene in the distance.
The original Lake Pedder lies about 15m below the impoundment which still bears its name and is some 25 times its size. It was an ancient landform of magnificent grandeur, unparalleled at least within an Australian context. It was destroyed in 1972 to build a hydro-electric scheme to produce power which was eventually not even required.
The destruction of Lake Pedder, for whatever reason, remains indefensible.
