Noyhener Beach
Noyhener Beach is a long sandy beach extending eastwards from Murgab Creek to a rocky cape called Chatfield Point. Facing almost due south, it is very exposed and windswept. High sand dunes back the beach for most of its length.
The route from Window Pane Bay to Noyhener Beach is mostly along open rolling hills near the coast. Some patches of forest are encountered, and most walkers seem to get lost on the numerous faint pads with frequent false leads that criss-cross these forests. I was certainly no exception, getting lost in a thick patch of forest just north of Faults Bay and stumbling around for a good half hour before finally finding my way out. I was comforted to learn later that even the legendary Hobart Walking Club, who came through the following day, got lost in the same area.
Approaching Noyhener beach, a faint pad leads through one last band of forest before reaching the rocky coast just south of the beach. Fortunately the weather was calm when I arrived and an easy rock hop at water level led straight to the beach. Two parties arriving the next day encountered heavy seas and crashing waves following a storm the previous night and rock hopping for them was out of the question. Fortunately an alternative route exists through the thick coastal scrub above the rocks.
