Nelly Island
Nelly Island is the largest and easternmost of the Frazier Islands, a group of three islands lying in Vincennes Bay approximately 16 km offshore from Casey Station. The Frazier Islands were delineated from aerial photographs taken by USN OpHjp in February 1947. Nelly Island was visited on Jan. 21, 1956 by an ANARE party who established an astronomical control station there. The island was so named by ANARE because of its Southern Giant Petrel, or Nelly, rookeries.
