1972 Ducati 450 Desmo Silver Shotgun
This 1972 450 Desmo Silver Shotgun was reputedly sold new by Lloyd Chapman Motorcycles, the Perth Ducati distributor at the time, and has since never left Perth. I purchased this bike in May 2011 from the 3rd owner who had owned it for over 15 years. She had ridden it very little in that time and had kept the bike in very original condition.
An original unrestored Silver Shotgun is hard to find nowadays. The unique silver metalflake finish on the fibreglass tank, side covers, seat and front mudguard is difficult to reproduce with modern finishes. The cycle parts and running gear, with a few minor exceptions, are all original and carry the patina of 40 years. The engine was rebuilt by the second owner and has since seen little use.
The first two pictures are of the bike at the National Ducati Rally in 2002, where it took Second Prize in the Concours D'Elegance.
The bike was in need of a tidy-up and polish, and the addition of a few parts that were either missing, incorrect, or damaged. All part of the fun of living with this sporting legend.
