Mundaring Weir Hotel

On any Sunday...
A chance meeting at The Bike Doctor in North Perth on Saturday morning. I rode down on my 750 Sport to get a new battery for my 450 Desmo. Just arrived, taking off my helmet, and I hear the unmistakeable rumble of another bevel twin. I turn around - it's not just another bevel twin, it's another 1974 750 Sport. By amazing co-incidence, Tim has just ridden up from Cottesloe for a new set of tyres. Two 750 Sports together on a glorious sunny Saturday morning is a co-incidence too good to waste. The new tyres are fitted and we ride up to Hillarys Boat Harbour for a coffee. The forecast for Sunday is fine - plans are made for a blast up to Mundaring Weir via Carmel.
Sunday Morning. We meet at Redfern St and head off through the tunnel and up the Lesmurdie Hill through Carmel and Bickley to Mundaring Weir Rd. Beautiful fast winding roads through State Jarrah forest. The Sport is running on new Bridgestone BattleAxe tyres and feels like it's on rails. The motor is at its best, breathing cool, dense Autumn air.
The Mundaring Weir Hotel is a gem nestled in Jarrah forest just 45 minutes from the Perth CBD. A peaceful relaxed bush garden setting with amphitheatre, pool, live music, great food and coffee; it attracts a kaleidoscope of visitors especially on a sunny Sunday.
The Hotel is a favoured hangout for motorcyclists. Sit outside next to the upper bar for a while and watch the everchanging parade of classic motorcycles. Triumphs, Nortons, Moto Guzzis, Ducatis, Harleys, the scene is constantly changing.
A group of improbably petite women ride away on huge thundering Harley Davidsons. Bearded tatooed bikers and Sunday latte drinkers alike smile with approval. There is a camaraderie amongst bike riders that transcends all else.
